D. Parker Jr.John Dorsey “J.D.” Parker Jr., 74, died Saturday night (June 17, 2017) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities following an extended illness.He was a native of Whitakers, N.C., and he had made his home in Brantley County since 1977. He was the son of the late John Dorsey Parker Sr. and Gladys Bullock Parker. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Amy Kristen Parker and Kimberly Dawn Parker, a son, Jon Cameron Parker Sr., and a sister, Faye Mills.He served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, being stationed in Korea.He retired in 2003 as a boilermaker with CSX Railroad after 33 years of service and had trained numerous apprentices during his career. He was a former member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers.He loved fishing and woodworking and made numerous pieces of furniture. He loved spending time with his grandson. He also had the talent of being able to make repairs to just about anything.He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class.He and his wife, Hope Smith Parker, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last month.Additional survivors include grandchildren, Jon “Cameron” Parker Jr., Trenton Thrift and Mallory Thrift, all of Waycross; daughter-in-law, Sherri Collins Parker, of Waycross; a sister, Mary Alice Farmer, of Rocky Mount, N.C.; three brothers, Bruce Parker (wife, Sandra), of Rocky Mount, N.C., Ferdie Parker and David Parker, both of Tarboro, N.C.; a special sister-in-law, Barbara Mayo, of Enfield, N.C.; nieces and nephews; and his faithful pet, Shadow.Memorials may be made to Hospice Satilla Hospice House, c/o Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, Ga. 31501.A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She cherished her life as the devoted mother of Emily Austin, Ann Crozier and Kate Golt; the beloved grandmother of Molly Austin, Will Austin, Madeline Crozier, Adam Crozier, Emmett Smith, Skyler Busby and Nolan Smith; the dear great-grandmother of Steven Smith; the precious sister of Cathy Mangino (spouse of Carl Mangino) and Tom Wildermuth; the admired first cousin of Joe Russo; the treasured aunt of Maggie Rose and Michael Mangino; the adored niece of Frank Russo; the darling great-granddaughter of artist E.K. Williams; and an endearing neighbor and favorite friend to many.Cookie was born in Mesa, Arizona, on July 8, 1946, to her parents, Rosemary Russo and Lubonir Shyshka. Lubonir died in a plane crash when Cookie was 3 weeks old. Her mother, Rosemary, remarried Joe Wildermuth. Her family once lived in Berlin, Germany, before coming to Alexandria, Virginia, where Cookie lived as a teenager and graduated high school from T.C. Williams High School in 1964. Cookie was then accepted to American University in Washington, D.C., but decided to become a mother instead. She married Roger Golt, who fathered her three children. After their divorce, she and her three children drove a Volkswagen bug across the U.S. to settle in Nashville, Indiana, in 1976. They first lived on Tuck A Way Ridge, then shortly moved to Artist Drive, where Cookie lived for the past 41 years. In Nashville, Cookie met the love of her life, Steve Smith, and they married on April 8, 1981. Steve passed away from a brain aneurysm in 1994, and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville.Cookie did everything she could to build a loving, caring home for all who entered it. She was a hardworking mother, homemaker and parent. She supported her children by working at The Seasons as a cocktail waitress and front desk clerk, working for her uncle Frank at Hills O’ Brown Realty, and working at both the Brown County Folk Shop and Mrs. Cassiday’s Children’s Shop. CHATHAM, Va. Adrene Pearson Cummins, age 82, of Danville, passed away on Wednesday,February 8, 2017, at Chatham Health and Rehabilitation Center in Chatham. She was born on December 4, 1934, in Catchings, Miss., the daughter of the late Marvin Pearson and the late Sallie Seale Pearson. She was married to the late Charles Kenneth Cummins Sr. She was a member of Stokesland United Methodist Church. She is survived by a son, Charles Cummins and his wife, Dara of Loudon, Tenn.; a daughter, Terry Hudson and her husband, Artie of Chatham, Va.; a sister, Betty Perry and her husband, Jake of Greenville, Miss.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. The family would like to thank everyone at Chatham Health and Rehab for all you did in caring for our mother. Also, Comfort Care for all you did. Memorial services will be conducted at Scott Funeral Home on Monday, February 13, 2017, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home one hour prior to the service. She will be buried at Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenville, Miss. at a later date.
